I love how you put the examples of your lessons on the blogs! The lesson sounded great and it seems like it would help the students. That is CRAZY about your student and that is odd to think about 4 teachers not being able to "handle" it when there should only be 1 teacher. Sometimes though, you just have to "roll with it" within the classroom setting and I'm sure it'll become easier and less intimidating as we move on through our field experiences. Hope your last week was great!

Even though this week had some class management mishaps, it seems like nothing was ever too out of control, and you were able to get things back on track relatively quickly. I think that having experiences like that are good, because it gives you the opportunity to learn from them so you are better prepared when both planning and teaching lessons. Sometimes things you never even thought about happen, and having experiences when things go awry help you to think of what to do when those "what-if" moments occur.

I really enjoyed the YouTube video, and I definitely think it is problematic that long division is not taught. I actually didn't know that until now, and I recall one time last year I was supposed to help a student with division, and they were completely clueless about what I was talking about-- because I was trying to explain it using long division. I have only worked with Everyday Math a few times. I agree it has its pros and cons. I think I would rather teach general concepts that will be elaborated on in the future, but this could be because that was how I was taught. I personally think that not enough time is spent on individual concepts which does not allow the student to master the concept.

Have a good week in field! Hopefully no snow days!

Sounds like your lesson went well! Thats good to hear! Wow, it seems "John" really put your classroom management skills to the test!

This will be an interesting experience having four teachers in the room. I feel that this would be a great learning experience because not only are you able to see how Mr. Larousse works with the class but also how Alison and Angela handle the class as well. You would be able to pick out what you like from the other teachers and see what is not your style. I bet it is great having a student teacher in the classroom. This will allow you to have a glance at how student teaching works as well as ask questions/advice of Angela prior to your student teaching.

This week was bit of a crazy week due to the weather and that sucks that your lesson got moved back, but you are right about it being nice to be more comfortable with the topics you are teaching.
The assembly sounds like a really great experience for the whole student body and it's great that the students actually paid attention and took in what they were listening to. Seeing these areas of history is important for all students to understand and see how far our country has come, even if they don't realize it.
That's great that you got to do something with the Base Ten rods that we talked about in class, even if it didn't go as well as it could have, but you have to expect that when it comes to parties that are happening after the lesson.

Sounds like it was a good 2 days though, good luck on your lesson and I can't wait to hear about it!

That really sounds like an exciting classroom to be in! That's great about having Ashley and you jumping right in, this way you don't have that dull "I feel like I'm in the way" feeling, which is never fun. Also, that is awesome you got to see such a variety of areas already in our content and the activities sound useful and fun too.

Hope next week is just as great as this week! Good luck teaching your lesson!!!
